Paranormal: Deceived by the Others, by Jess Haines

Deceived by the Others, by Jess Haines is book three in the H&W Investigations series. In the first two books, Hunted by the Others and Taken by the Others, Shiarra Waynest finds herself in trouble when she takes an assignment to find a mystical object of power, ends up in a battle to save her life and those of many Others, then subsequently becomes hunted as an object of revenge for a life lost in the battle.

In Deceived by the Others, Shiarra is on the mends from the injuries sustained from her last run-in with the Others, when she decides that it is time to spend some quality time with her boyfriend, Chaz, and really get to know him in his pack setting. Oh, did I forget to mention Shiarra is dating a werewolf? She is also pseudo-friends with a vampire, Royce, and a mage, Arnold, who is dating her best friend and business partner, Sara.

Shiarra, Chaz and the rest of the Sunstriker Pack go to a privately owned hideaway in the forest to hunt during the coming full moon. Unfortunately, things do not go smoothly for Shiarra, as someone keeps leaving threatening warnings for her and Chaz to leave. The weekend ends with someone being horribly betrayed, and the possibilities for Shiarra's future are left dangling for the reader to hold onto until the next release in the series.

I read this series in succession, instead of as the books were released, so I feel I was able to get a good sense of the characters and overall storyline.  The series is entertaining, well paced, and suspenseful. The characters are developing over the course of the stories, and each story's plot is well thought out.

In Deceived by the Others, there was a situation where I felt the resolution to one of the problems was a bit cheesy (Hawk),but overall I really enjoyed the book, having finished it in one sitting. I really look forward to the next book in the H&W series.

On a scale of 1-4, I give this book a 3.5. A little cheese with my whine, but a really good read overall.
